Daniel's week

It's his 6th grade graduation picture and an exciting time in Daniel's life right now. He's state testing, finishing up 6th grade projects, working on his 6th grade science fair project titled Diabetics vs. Non Diabetics, applied and interviewed for the AVID program at his future Jr. high on his own, planning his graduation, and through all this started his insulin pump therapy for the first time and had a pump malfunction and reaction to the insets.

He's got so much on his plate right now maybe this little brake was God's way of slowing things down for him to catch up with what was most important in this life at this moment and that is his Diabetes control. He had some horrible numbers that were very dangerous especially when his pump was falling off in the middle of the night or he was getting a rash at the site of his inset. We kept reattaching it and his sugars were not stable, insulin kept going up and he was still getting worse and spilling ketones. We went through a dozen supplies in less than 10 days. It was scary and finally when Dr. Wong said to remove him and call the pump company I was actually relieved.

He told his RNs he wants to focus on his state testing right now and take a brake from the middle of the night testing so he could rest and not have 2 hour testing at school. I have to trust him on this. I'm his parent. But, he is the patient. He's an honors student. He's the GATE student. He is the responsible one who turns his phone off to study. I trust him to know what he wants to do right now. It is hard to be woken up 3-4 times a night and focus at school. He was up to 10pm trying to do geometry at night. That's hard on an 11 year old boy.

Here's his current post for this week. He's been extremely busy. He starts dissecting frogs next week. Finishing his research on my husband and I for his science fair project. OUCH! My fingers are going to be so sore, but it's for a great cause. Let's make top 3 again this year son and maybe district this year.

He's ready for graduation on June 10th and I'll officially have a Junior High son on my hands and an AVID student! Congratulations son! I'm so proud of you!
